Lochranza Pontoon Photograph

Summary of Project

Lochranza on the Isle of Arran is a key sailing destination and a 'gateway' to the Clyde Estuary, its islands and the Kintyre Peninsula.

Research identified a growing demand for moorings at Lochranza with step-ashore facilities which would allow boat users to access the shore easily and safely, spend longer ashore and use the loch as a key service point on longer touring boat trips.

Working together in partnership North Ayrshire Council and the Lochranza & Catacol Sea Society Community Interest Company met this demand with the provision of a high quality 'touch and go' pontoon system. The L-Shaped pontoon, which measures 40m x 20m and has a gated bridge to the shore, was completed for use in July 2008.
