Scottish Sailing Institute

Summary of Project

The Scottish Sailing Institute (SSI) was formed as a pilot project in partnership with Largs Sailing Club, the Royal Yachting Association, SportsScotland, North Ayrshire Council, Scottish Enterprise Ayrshire and Largs Yacht Haven.

Based at the Largs marina site, the SSI was initially developed to provide Scotland and the Clyde with resources capable of holding the best European and World sailing events, for all Olympic and Youth Classes across all sailing disciplines, becoming a recognised centre of sailing excellence. This was also combined with the need to generate economic benefits for the local economy.

Throughout its pilot period, the SSI positively demonstrated both of these strategic goals and as a result North Ayrshire Council and the other partners identified a larger longer term funding package to continue with the project. This is primarily focusing on raising the SSI's marketing profile, which is vital to attract the events and maintain the profile of sailing in the area.
