Project
Background
Scotland is hailed as one of the top six sailing destinations in the world with a marine leisure industry generating £250 million per year.
North Ayrshire sits on the Clyde Estuary which has the largest area of sheltered water in Western Europe. With an abundance of natural, physical and logistical assets, North Ayrshire is a quality sailing destination offering a spectacular coastline stretching from Irvine to Largs, the beautiful islands of Greater Cumbrae, Little Cumbrae and the Isle of Arran, excellent marinas, good transport links and a host of coastal resort towns.
With berthing on the Clyde currently at capacity, North Ayrshire Council has committed to a five year plan to develop opportunities and expand infrastructure within its marine leisure sector. This will be done within the context of an over-arching marine leisure strategy for Sail Clyde, a private/public partnership of the sailing industry, the local community, enterprise companies, councils and the private sector.
North Ayrshire Council is the key delivery partner at a local level for Sail Clyde and through Set Sail North Ayrshire will work towards achieving the partnership's overall goals.
